Read this fast:
Assuming you already know the basics of reading music, this is a way to make reading faster. Some of these tips apply more to piano because in other instruments, you are already comfortable with exact notes.
Rhythmic Divisions
- Map out the down beats and the middles of each measure
- group them and play that in your head (1ena 2ena…)
- look out for time signature changes
Interval Faces
- like notes are odd apart (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11)
- different notes are even apart (2, 4, 8, 10, 12)
Tiering
- upper tier notes
- lower tier notes
your hands have to places to be, you can group notes in the upper(lower) tier since they will be nearer to other upper(lower) tier notes.
Key Signature
- the rightmost sharp is the leading tone for the major key.
- the second rightmost flat is the major key.
